Voter Eligibility - Who Can Vote?
- Minimum Age To Vote: Be 18 years old or older on or before the next election.
- Minimum Age To Register To Vote: You must be 18 on or before the next election to register.
To vote in Montana, you must:
- Be registered as required by law.
- Be a citizen of the United States.
- Have lived in Montana for at least 30 days.
You cannot vote in Montana if:
- You're a convicted felon serving a sentence in a penal institution.
- You've been judged in a court of law to be of unsound mind.
Ways To Register To Vote
By Mail
Fill out and sign a voter registration application and drop it off at your county election office, or mail it to the county election administrator.
In Person
Qualified individuals may register to vote at the polling place on Election Day. Late registration (after the registration deadline 30 days before an election) is available through noon the day before the election at county election offices. MCA 13-2-110, MCA 13-2-304, MCA 13-2-514

How Do I Know I'm Registered?
- Consider yourself registered when- and only when- you receive an acknowledgment from your county clerk.
- Never assume you are registered to vote until you have received this acknowledgment.
- Call your county clerk and inquire about the status of your application.

Montana Voters - Acceptable Forms of Identification:
- Driver’s license
- Tribal photo identification
- Current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, notice of confirmation of voter registration, government check, or other government document that shows the elector's name and current address
Montana has a Non-strict voter identification law
- Voters in Montana need to present a current ID to vote. If you do not have a photo ID with your name on it, you can provide document that shows your name and current address. If you do not have any ID, you can still vote by requesting and filling out a “Polling Place Elector ID” form, or you can vote a provisional ballot.
